In a wandrous event brought to you by a collection of enterprising individuals from the community, the first official reunion show from local favorites 49 Winchester, along with performaces by the soulful and bluesy Jake Quillin Band and effervescent DJ Kudzu, is happening Saturday, May 27!
This special event will be hosted at the newly opened Abingdon restaraunt The Market: Homegrown Burgers & Brews located at 1220 West Main Street. Owner Nate Breeding who initally established Southern Culture Appalachian Produce & Food Service Provisions in 2008, spearheaded this latest endeavor as a physical location and quality eatery in the community to carry on the vision and mission of his Appalacian produce and food provision company by focusing on produce, meats, dairy and dry goods sourced locally with an emphasis on supporting local homegrown businesses.
Skoolie Brew, a brand new business adventure by professional brewer Drake Scott and partner Kristan Robertson, will be on site to provide the… unusual stage. This will be the launch of Skoolie Brew’s planned series of events, begining locally and eventually spanning over the country as a travelling converted school bus complete with a roof stage for live music entertainment for private functions, music and beer festivals as well as businesses with a mission of providing event planning and more. Also part of the build out will be a 60 gallon brew system in order to meet other beer enthusiasts, home brewers and breweries to provide an opportunity for craft beer education and/or collaborations.
In an effort to support both The Market and Skoolie Brew’s missions and ideas, proceeds from the event ticket sales and donations will be given to Farm Fresh Kids, “an incentive program about healthy eating and active living, giving kids the power to decide what foods to buy and consume. It was created by the Abingdon Farmers Market to incentivize children to increase their consumption of fresh produce, in addition to receiving nutritional and physical education lessons from different community groups.” (http://www.abingdonfarmersmarket.com)
Any additional proceeds will help go toward helping fund the first leg of Skoolie Brew’s travels and start up expenses.
